Leaving a car in the mountains: dormancy without damage

A car left for six weeks at 1100 metres is not simply a car that has been parked. Cold, humidity and immobility work on it continuously, and the failures they cause are entirely predictable — which means entirely preventable.
The battery is the first casualty
Modern vehicles draw current permanently for telematics and alarms. Below zero, capacity falls at the same time consumption continues. A maintenance charger, or a scheduled visit to run and condition the car, prevents the flat-battery arrival that ruins a first evening.
Tyres, brakes and fluids
Flat spots form on cold concrete under static load; discs bloom with surface rust in humid garages; brake fluid absorbs moisture year-round. Correct pressures, occasional movement and a fluid schedule handle all three.
Humidity and unwanted residents
Alpine garages breathe. Damp interiors develop odour and mould, and rodents find engine-bay insulation attractive in winter. Ventilation, desiccants and periodic inspection are unglamorous and decisive.
Waking the car properly
Readiness is not turning the key an hour before you land. Charge or fuel, tyre pressures, screenwash rated for altitude, a wash after weeks of dust, and a short road test — done the day before, not the moment of arrival.
